Twoscore of the infected machines received a 2nd-stage payload that appears to take targeted technology companies Samsung, Sony, Asus, Intel, VMWare, O2, Singtel, Gauselmann, Dyn, Chunghwa and Fujitsu.[36] [37] On 13 September, Piriform released CCleaner 5.34 and CCleaner Cloud one.07.3191, without the malicious code.[38]

On 21 October 2019, Avast disclosed a 2nd security breach during which attackers tried again to insert malware within CCleaner releases. That attempt was unsuccessful.[39]
